So....just attempted my first lesson in Korean on Rosetta Stone....

Yeah, ROFLville! Apparently, I suck at pronunciation and vocab retention. I also can't read Korean at all, so that was fun trying to decipher everything after it's already been made into a sentence. Lot's of fun....NOT!

LOL! But I'm gonna keep trying. What trips me out the most is this is my first lesson and it was only 30min or so. If I'm having such a hard time with this, I don't even wanna think about later. I guess I'll just keep doing each lesson over and over until I'm confident I have the vocab/pronunciation/spelling down.

That's one thing about learning at my own leisure instead of in a class; I can take my own sweet time! マイペースでいいよ! Yeah, eff that class/grade/GPA shit....

there is a wonderful program for learning a language called the Linkword system and what it does is make you see the word usually in a ridiculous light, like the japanese for duck is Ahiru so you imagine a duck in a cape, ie a superhero duck hero=duck and it's learned

now the problem is that it's not available in Korean but the same thing works for any language you associate it with something similar to the word
like in German window is fenster - to throw someone out of a window in english is defenestrate, so imagine throwing a german person out of a window defenestrate - fenster and in french it's fenetre so the same applies

i found i could not work with rosetta at all - but this worked really well for me

(also did you know that there is a second Kushiel series?)

Haha. Those examples are awesome! I sometimes do that with Japanese and the kanji. (^_^)

With Korean I found it's easier to remember the words that are similar to Japanese words meaning the same thing. Like 'promise,' 'newspaper,' 'cooking,' etc. That helps a lot with some things.

I'll check out the site, if only for my Japanese. Thanx!

Yeah, I did know about the other series. The one about her son right? I don't know. I didn't like it as much as the first. I haven't figured out why yet. I'll probably read it again just to see why I didn't enjoy it as much. Maybe I just wasn't feeling it when I read it. LOL!
