So I just did my taxes...

I owe.

To be exact, I owe $599.00 to the federal government.

Let me explain why I apparently owe. I'm an orphan. Both my parents were dead by the time I was 7. I get a monthly payment from the DC Pension office because my father was a teacher and died before he could retire and start using his pension.

Apparently, because he died before he could use it and I have never given money into that pension, I have to pay taxes on 100% of it as if it were my own pension; as if I'm retired and living off of a pension. But that only accounts for about $400 of what I owe. The rest is from my Board of Trustee stipend for which I received about $900 last year. That goes down as "Self-employment," which you know is taxed up the wazoo. I think it might also be because my Aunt (Legal Guardian) will be claiming me as a dependent.

Yeah...that's usually how my life goes.

At least I'll get $92 from Maryland. Apparently, that gets processed quick so I should see it at the end of next week. I really need that. I'm going to be taking on another class (a weekender) and I didn't know how I'd get the book for it. My next stipend payment will be in the beginning to middle of April, so I hope it'll be in time to pay what I owe the Federal Government. I'll probably work out a payment plan just in case.

I know it sucks, but what do you do? You just got to pay up and hope the next time around it doesn't happen again.

See ya next time.
